Rules in Turkey when you plan shifts
- Working time is at most 45 hours a week. By agreement it can be spread unevenly across the days, but never more than 11 hours a day; in tourism the weekly average can’t exceed 45 hours over four months.
- Night work (20:00–06:00) can’t exceed 7.5 hours. In tourism it can, with the employee’s written consent.
- Night and day crews rotate: someone who works nights for a week works days the week after; a two-week rotation is also allowed.
- Someone changing crews must rest at least 11 hours in a row before working on the new one.
- Breaks: 15 minutes for up to 4 hours of work, half an hour for up to 7.5 hours, an hour beyond that.
- Everyone gets a weekly rest of at least 24 hours in a row within every 7 days.

- How do I make a hotel staff rota?
- Decide your departments and how you split the 24 hours; most hotels use morning, evening and night. Write down how many people each department needs every day, collect time off and availability, and rotate the night crew weekly.
- How long can a night shift be?
- Under Turkish Labour Law, night work (20:00–06:00) can’t exceed 7.5 hours. In tourism it can, with the employee’s written consent.
